Plaswijk, Vinkeveen
Plaswijk covers more than 3.5 hectares, on which 73 holiday homes were built around 1960, spread over eight peninsulas in the armpit of the Molenkade/Vinkenkade and a strip of land along the Molenkade in Vinkeveen, 10 minutes drive from Amsterdam.
This particular family house was carefully rebuilt in the 1980s and forty years later it was due some modernisation. In particular the owners looked to improve the energy performance of the house. Additionally they wanted to improve the usability of the 1st floor bedroom spaces and add a large social balcony above the terrace on the south facade. After a number of roof studies it was agreed that raising the existing walls, whilst maintianing the existing total height of the building would make the most economic sense, and be logistically and aesthetically better than dormer windows. The roof height increased with 80cm, which in turn increased the usable space by 16m2 without making the perimeter of the house larger.
The new design orientates the living space and the house as a while beter towards the surrounding watery landscape.
